HOW TO REGISTER YOUR AUSTRALIAN HERITAGE ANGUS CATTLE
Australian Heritage Angus members have the option of registering or recording their animals. Animals can initially be recorded and then at a later date be upgraded, for a fee, to registration status. The difference being that:
Registered animals
- require a DNA profile (parent verified)
- will receive a certificate of registration
- can register progeny
- can be transferred
Recorded animals
- are not able to register progeny
- will not receive a certificate of registration
- cannot be transferred
- do not require a DNA analysis
- their pedigree information can, however, be viewed and obtained from the AHA database.
DNA Analysis is required for all:
- 100% Australian Heritage Angus registrations (to include parent verification PV)
- Purebred registrations, which will be used to sire, registered cattle or be included on the semen register (to include parent verification).
- Percentage registrations (First cross (F1) registrations must provide a DNA profile and PV to the Australian Heritage Angus Sire or Dam used in the cross)
The process involves the following steps:
1. Obtain a DNA test kit from Zoetis. You can call 1300 768 400 and provide your details or you can order it online through their website – https://www2.zoetis.com.au/genetics. Instructions for hair sample collection are included with each test kit and the sample submission form to be completed is below.
2. Send the hair samples plus the completed submission form by mail to Zoetis. Samples will not be processed unless payment is provided at time of lodgment.
3. Once you have received your DNA test results for the animals you wish to register, complete the “Australian Heritage Angus Animal Registration Application”. The DNA parent verification will need to confirm the sire and dam mating of the animal you wish to register. Please attach a copy of the DNA test results for each animal you wish to register.
